Google Brings Advertising to Gemini
Google has told advertising partners it intends to place ads in the Gemini chatbot starting in 2026. There are no public prototypes yet. No confirmed formats. But the direction is clear.
The Distinction That Matters
This is different from ads on AI Mode, the conversational search launched in March 2025. AI Mode already draws from existing Search, Shopping, and Performance Max campaigns. Ads in Gemini are a new, separate layer, tied to the direct chat interface.
Two products. Two experiences. Two measurement models.
The Context
Alphabet posted 13% growth in ad revenue in Q3 2025. Investments in AI infrastructure have been massive. Monetizing Gemini is the logical consequence.
OpenAI tried inserting promotional suggestions into ChatGPT. It pulled them back after user backlash. Google is watching. Its strategy will be different.
Ads Advisor and Analytics Advisor
Google has already released two AI tools for advertisers: Ads Advisor and Analytics Advisor, both built on Gemini. They generate keywords, optimize campaigns, and suggest automatic changes. Available to all English-language accounts since December 2025.
AI integration into advertising isn't a future prospect. It's already underway.
What to Do Now
Anyone managing campaigns needs to watch how the format evolves in Gemini. Traditional KPIs won't be enough in a conversational environment. Measuring intent will change.
Creative will need to adapt to the context of the response, not interrupt the user's traditional browsing experience.
